GO! 2025 Freedom of movement: selected the five best proposals

An international jury consisting of representatives of the GO! 2025 - The European Capital of Culture and professionals from the art field has selected five proposals from seven artists from Slovenia, Italy and France to carry out artistic interventions in Nova Gorica along the routes of two important cycling races: Giro d'Italia and the Tour of Slovenia. The project is supported by Municipality of Nova Gorica and GO! 2025 – European Capital of Culture.

On 19 April 2021, the Public tender for urban interventions - murals, graffiti and installations on the theme of mobility, which was open to artists and collectives living and working in the Member States of the European Union, came to an end. The jury received 45 received applications from nine countries. The selection took place in two phases, the pre-selection phase was done individually and on 23 April 2021, the final selection has been done by all the jury members gathering via the online video platform. Both selections were made by Anja Zver (head of the visual and intermedia program at Kino Šiška and co-curator of the Ljubljana Street Art Festival), Erik Ritzel (freelance art director and curator for Patina Berlin gallery), and representatives of the GO! 2025 - European Capital of Culture, Maja Murenc (communication manager GO! 2025) and Vesna Humar (coordinator GO! 2025).

The jury estimated that many quality proposals and in-depth ideas were received in the applications, which presented the area and its cross-border nature in an original way. Among them, the jury selected the five best proposals in terms of creativity of the proposal related to the theme of freedom of movement (cycling, borderlessness, Europe), the reference of the artist's past projects and placement in the selected location.

Selected artists are: Eva Mlinar and Maruša Štibilj (Ljubljana / Slovenia) for the location Rafut “A”; Vincent Chignier (Clermont-Ferrand / France) for Rafut “B”; Nicola Alessandrini and Lisa Gelli (Macerata / Italy) for the location of the Railway Buildings “A” and “B”; Nina Bric (Nova Gorica / Slovenia) for the location Reilway ramp (Nova Gorica) and Boštjan Drinovec (Ljubljana / Slovenia) for Telecommunication Tower.

The artists will be working on the locations the first two weeks in May and finish with their interventions by 17. 5. 2021 – just a couple of days before the prominent Giro d’Italia.
