Extraordinary General Meeting and Board of Directors of the Montpellier 2028 Association: an enriched and assertive territory for the final phase of the bid.

After Praga in 2000, Plzen in 2015, Budweis (České Budějovice) will be the European Capital of Culture in 2028 for the Czech Republic. The other city in competition was Broumov.

Matera 2019 continues to be a model for cities applying for the title of European Capital of Culture to study.  On 15 and 16 June, a delegation from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, after a stop in Rome at the Ministry of Culture, visited Matera to study the path of the European Capital of Culture in view of 2029, when a Polish city will be celebrating this title.

A delegation of tourism and culture experts from across Europe visited West Yorkshire to learn more about the district's key events and destinations, including Bradford 2025.

France and the Czech Republic are the countries that in 2028 will indicate the European capital of culture. The cities in shortlist are Czech Republic: Broumov and Budejovice; for France: Rouen, Bourges, Clermont-Ferrand, Montpellier.

"It is a great pleasure for Bodø2024 to announce that the Queen will be present at the official opening on February 3 next year". This is according to André Wallann Larsen, Director of Bodø2024.

Portugal is one of the two Member States that are eligible to host the European Capital of Culture in 2027. In total, 12 Portuguese cities participated in the first round of the competition, which started on 23 November 2020. Four cities were appointed to take part in the second round and, after the final hearings, the Panel of independent experts recommended the city of Évora for the title on 7 December 2022.

Municipalities, metropolitan cities and unions of municipalities that did not take part in the two previous editions can apply by submitting a written expression of interest by 4 July 2023.

Chemnitz and 38 partner municipalities and communities in the Central Saxony, Erzgebirge and Zwickau region will be the European Capital of Culture 2025. 

The European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024 is already playing host to a large number of events in the region of the 23 participating municipalities.

The title of European Capital of Culture is more than just the headline of a cultural year. It is a large-scale project that is intended to have a long-term effect, bringing about lasting change for a region and its inhabitants.

Next year Bodø, Norway, will be European Capital of Culture, the first city north of the Arctic Circle to hold the prestigious title. Get a peek at what’s in store for the title year - some of the highlights of the Bodø2024 programme were unveiled later last friday.
