After Tartu 2024, Bodo 2024 also published the programme of the events that will take place in the European Capital of Culture year. While on 15 November, in the European Parliament building in Brussels, the three European Capitals of Culture 2024, Tartu, Bodo and Salzkammergut will present their programmes. Ecocnews will be present at the press conference with two journalists.

On Wednesday 20 September, the European capitals expert panel recommended the city of Skopje (North Macedonia) for the title of European Capital of Culture 2028 “beyond the EU”. This category is reserved for EFTA/EEA countries or EU candidate countries. On the short list was only one other city in the EFTA/EEA category, Budva in Montenegro. But the panel between the two cities chose Skopje.In the past few days, the report of the evaluation panel has been published online where you can read the reasons that led to this decision.

The countdown to the opening ceremony of Tartu, European Capital of Culture 2024, on 26 January has begun. And well in advance, the cultural programme with 350 projects and over a thousand events is already online here.

Estonian musician and producer NOËP released his new single "Young Blood City," which will also be the offical anthem for Tartu's year as European Capital of Culture in 2024.

Registration is now open for the workshop 'A cross-border European Capital of Culture: new challenges for cohesion policy'. Around 6000 buildings: this is the number of modernist objects in Kaunas city and its district surviving to this day. From luxurious concrete villas, temples and public buildings, schools and cultural institutions, to small wooden houses. 

In 2028, Budweis will be the European Capital of Culture for the Czech Republic. The other city on the short list was Broumov. Today the European Commission published the report of the evaluation panel (Attached to this news) where we can read the reasons for this choice.

Ghent is a candidate to become European Capital of Culture in 2030. This title has existed since 1985 and in 2030 a city from Belgium, also will be European Capital of Culture. The title may have started as the crown in a beauty pageant, but today, it is a recognition of courageous European cities. 

As part of the Nova Gorica European Capital of Culture, Europe Square, one of the main venues in 2025, will be given a refreshed look. Last days, a public tender was published by EGTC GO for the construction works, which will be carried out in the municipality of Gorizia and in the municipality of Nova Gorica and are expected to be completed by December 31, 2024.

What kind of situations did other European cities face after completion of the European Capital of Culture year? Which ones of the phenomena that had emerged in the cultural sector, in the communication of the regional image and in the community and public sectors have been successfully maintained and which ones – not, and why? Which of the lessons learned could be of use for the future representatives of the Cultural Capitals in the development of their own legacy plans?

The picture of the next European Capitals of Culture is becoming more and more defined.
