In 2026, a Finnish city will become a European Capital of Culture. Oulu, Savonlinna and Tampere are the three finalist cities candidates for the title. On 23 April 2021 they submitted their application to be European Capital of Culture in 2026. The panel visits to the candidate cities will be organized in May 2021. The name of the European Capital of Culture will be announced on 2 June 2021 when the panel meets in Helsinki. 

Trencin is one of the three cities in Slovakia (the others are Nitra and Zilina) competing for the title of European Capital of Culture for 2026. The city is asking people to celebrate Europe Day from 3rd to 9th of May 2021 sharing photos of their favourite places.

On March 4th, there will be a cultural competition in which an idea can win € 2026, the same number as the year in which Finland, together with the Slovak Republic, must have the European Capital of Culture.

The Finns to produce a several million euro ice show of the beloved H. C. Andersen fairytale classic “The Snow Queen”, aimed at arenas and arena promoters starving for family audience content.

Žilina is a natural centre of north-western Slovakia and with a population of 84 604 inhabitants (as per December 31, 2010) it ranks among the largest cities in Slovakia. Žilina is situated around 200 km from Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
