Next year Bodø, Norway, will be European Capital of Culture, the first city north of the Arctic Circle to hold the prestigious title. Get a peek at what’s in store for the title year - some of the highlights of the Bodø2024 programme were unveiled later last friday.  

Queen Sonja of Norway will be Patron of Bodø 2024. "This is very inspiring" says Bodø2024's CEO, Andre Wallann Larsen. He is naturally very pleased with the news from the Royal Palace.

Bodø2024 has commissioned author Stef Penney to write a book set in Nordland, Northern Norway. The catch? She is not allowed to travel there. Instead, it is locals themselves who will provide Penney with inspiration for her book, sharing stories and tips remotely via mail and phone, and helping her with her research from Nordland.

We asked managers of the European capitals of culture from 2022 to 2025, five same questions to understand their expectations in a clear and concise way. Bodø is the European capital of culture for 2024. Bodø kunstforening and Nordnorske Bildende kunstnere (NNBK) jointly produced 'Equinox' an anniversary exhibition for both Bodø kunstforening (75 years) and NNBK (50 years) in 2021. Equinox - Spring Equinox is the celebration of the first day of spring.
