Under the Christmas tree, French cities have found the announcement which officially opens the race for European capital of culture for 2028.

On its way from temporary to contemporary, Kaunas has also become the city of contemporary art. Even before the official opening of the Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 programme, art lovers have marked routes to the exclusive events, exhibitions, installations and performances held in the city. The year 2022 will enhance the contemporary vibes with international highlights, brave declarations and globally praised personalities.

With a Bidbook entitled "Cultivating curiosity" the Slovak city of Trencin has won the title of European capital of culture for 2026. EcocNews is very proud of this result because it is a partner of Trencin2026. Trencin will share the title of European Capital of Culture with the Finnish city of Oulu in 2026.

The last phase for the selection of the city that in 2026 will be the European capital of culture for the Slovak Republic has begun today. The result will be known in the next few days. Meanwhile, Good luck to all three competing cities: Nitra, Trencin and Zilina.

Every ECoC journey lasts around 10 years, from start to finish, and involves the ever present challenge of how to engage with a complex pool of stakeholder groups, upskill professionals, and connect and grow together as a Capital of Culture. The DeuS project is introducing a unique tool that can help throughout the ECoC journey.

Estonian technology and art farm Maajaam announces an open call for artists to participate in the residency Wild Bits that will culminate with an outdoor exhibition in the surrounding hill country of Otepää, South Estonia. Wild Bits is part of the main programme of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. Deadline: December 12, 2021.

If the Italian Capital of Culture for 2024 were measured on the basis of its digital activity, the two Apulian cities Conversano and Mesagne would certainly be included in the short list, which will be announced in January, while the Lucanian town of Aliano would remain excluded from the competition, since it has not thought, at least to date, of opening social channels on the candidacy.

The call for proposals is open, i.e. applications can be submitted from 1 January to 3 April 2022. The aim of the call for proposals is to support the implementation of international cultural projects interpreting the concept of the Arts of Survival of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 in the years 2023–2024.

Ecoc2027 Portugal will be Evora

The president of european panel, Beatriz Garcia, announced the names of the European capital of culture in 2027 for Portugal in a press conference this afternoon. The Ecoc 2027 for Portugal will be Evora. 

Contextile 2022 will host two artistic residencies within the biennial’s programme between the 15th July and the 31st August 2022 in Guimarães, Portugal. Deadline: 09th January 2022. Therefore, they invite all interested artists to apply and present a proposal for an artistic project to be developed and produced in one of these residencies.
