Remember Me

Ecoc of the year

An immersive exhibition by Mehdi Ahoudig and Samuel Bollendorff (22.10.2022 - 05.02.2023), organised by Esch2022 - European Capital of Culture and produced by Les films du Bilboquet with the support of the DRAC (Direction régionale des affaires culturelles) Grand Est Region and Sony France.

“Architecture is always a dream and a function, expression of utopia and instrument of comfort”, Vaidas Petrulis, one of the organisers of the final conference of the European Capital of Culture’s programme “Modernism for the Future”, opened the event with a quote from the French philosopher Roland Barthes. The event attended by a wide range of thinkers and practitioners to Kaunas offered unexpected ways of talking about the inevitably shared past, present and future of our planet; the history in which architecture plays the role of both antagonist and protagonist.

A few more days to admire the Mari Katayama exhibition set up at the Photography Gallery. The exhibition organized by Kaunas 2022 with the support of Lithuanian Council for Culture and Eu Japan fest, will end on September 18th.

“For me, this forum is like a wrap-up of the entire Jewish memory programme of Kaunas – European Capital of Culture. It is the culmination of our many years of efforts to build bridges of cooperation and dialogue,” says Daiva Price, the initiator of the Litvak Culture Forum and the curator of the Kaunas 2022 programme Memory Office.

For the month of September, Esch2022 is planning more than 200 events and there will be something for everyone. The 5th Nuit de la Culture with the project Reesch, directed by Sean McKeown, artistic director of Cirque du Soleil, will make the red earth shake with local and international talent. Giant puppets parade through the neighbourhoods and tell in collaboration with La Machine collectif the metamorphosis of the town of Esch-Alzette.

The Kaleidoscope of Culture, the winner of the European Trend Brand in the Field of Culture Award, will experience its fifth and, so far, most significant edition, from 1 september to 7 October in Novi Sad.

This fall, Kaunas will host a triennial of contemporary Ukrainian art — Ukrainian Cross-Section 2022. UKRAINE! UNMUTED presents the works of contemporary artists. Other parts of the project include  discussions and a book of essays.

A special initiative was undertaken by 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture last June, in the context of the narrative Exhibition–Installation Mystery 12_Eleusis + Revolution.

The first results of an extensive survey conducted by the Esch2022 ASBL and the polling company ILRES indicate a high level of satisfaction among the participants of the events organised in the framework of Esch2022.

Since the very beginning, Esch2022 has embraced the concept of culture in all its dimensions and in accordance with the European Commission's criteria defining the concept of European Capitals of Culture.

The ‘Vila’ family festival, which takes place between 3 and 5 June in the unique ambience of Fruška Gora, in Vrdnik (Fruške Terme Resort), includes a rich programme for the youngest – numerous workshops, dance performances, and film and literary events that will bring joy to the first weekend of June. Admission to all programmes is free.

Global warming is rapidly progressing. It has been factually proven to be largely man-made and that human activity heavily influences biological, geological and atmospheric processes on earth. The Earthbound exhibition presents 18 artworks by internationally renowned artists to spark reflection on urgent environmental themes, especially in relation to the complex relationship between humans and the ecosystem.

Giant puppets, plays, operas for children, concerts and exhibitions, troupes that are among the best in Europe, literary and other magical journeys – Novi Sad is becoming the capital of fairy tales and stories, a unique theatrical experience for all.

On 12-13 May, Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 will open a new Summer Stage, the essential cultural gift of the warm season for the city. Every Thursday to Sunday until mid-September, Kaunas Town Hall Square will host concerts, performances and other creative activities by Lithuanian artists and international guests.
