Notre Dame is called the soul of Paris. This church is a place of identification for an entire country. As a result of the tragic fire in 2019, their bells have fallen silent. However, these bells were not damaged by the fire and quietly “listen” to the sounds of the city around Notre Dame. Silent Echoes: Notre Dame is a continuously live-streamed sound sculpture that makes audible the simple physical fact that these bells are constantly ringing in secret.
As part of the Timisoara 2023 cultural programme, the exhibition Light whispers in the silence by artists Dorian Bolca, Andrei Bucovanu, RIZI & Dorin Cucicov, Sergiu Doroftei, and Calin Topa will open on 10 October at 8pm at the the MV Sci-Art Cultural Center (Timișoara, bd. Mihai Viteazu, nr.1).
České Budějovice received the title of European Capital of Culture 2028. To ensure its successful implementation, the city established a registered institute, which is looking for an executive director for the following years.
Registration is now open for the workshop 'A cross-border European Capital of Culture: new challenges for cohesion policy'. In support of Ukrainian culture EcocNews has launched a petition for one of the three European Capitals of Culture to be chosen in 2030. We have reached over 300 signatures, but the petition is still open and can be found here. Another even more important initiative in support of Ukrainian culture is ZMINA: Rebuilding.
Peter Gabriel and Sting's favourite drummer Manu Katché, nu jazz emblematic trumpeter Erik Truffaz, Grammy Award-winning guitar virtuoso Bill Frisell, amazing Swiss drummer Jojo Mayer and the Scary Pockets, who have made a name for themselves with their funk reinterpretations of well-known songs, will also perform at the Veszprém Jazz Festival from 16 to 19 November 2023.
In 2028, Budweis will be the European Capital of Culture for the Czech Republic. The other city on the short list was Broumov. Today the European Commission published the report of the evaluation panel (Attached to this news) where we can read the reasons for this choice.
Ghent is a candidate to become European Capital of Culture in 2030. This title has existed since 1985 and in 2030 a city from Belgium, also will be European Capital of Culture. The title may have started as the crown in a beauty pageant, but today, it is a recognition of courageous European cities.
