Four French cities have been shortlisted to become European Capital of Culture in 2028: Rouen, Montpellier, Clermont – Ferrand, Bourges.

On March 3 in Paris, the panel evaluating the European Capitals of Culture for 2028 will choose some of the 9 cities that applied to be on the short list. After Rouen, Montpellier, Clermont – Ferrand, Reims, Bastia – Corsica, Bourges, Saint Denis, Amiens, today we discover Nice.

The European Capital of Culture competition desired by the European Union is about to reach an important milestone: the 40th anniversary of its birth. In 2025 this competition will celebrate the so-called “Ruby Wedding” with European cities. A marriage with the many regions of Europe, with the territories which, as in every marriage, has experienced positive aspects, in most cases, and negative aspects.

In France, many cities have decided to participate in the competition to become the European Capital of Culture in 2028 together with a city in the Czech Republic. Evora will be the European capital of culture for Portugal in 2027. This was announced today by the president of the evaluation panel, Beatriz Garcia, during a press conference in the presence of national, local and European institutional representatives.

The countdown started for the three cities that will be European capitals of culture in 2023: Veszprém (Hungary), Timisoara (Romania) and Eleusis (Greece). In fact, the dates of the opening ceremonies of the respective cultural programs have been decided.

Broumov and Budejovice are the cities in the Czech Republic that passed the preselection and entered the short list to become the European Capital of Culture for 2028. This was announced today by the evaluation panel of the European Commission during a press conference that took place today in Prague.

EcocNews continues the journey among the cities that are candidates for European capital of culture for 2028 in the Czech Republic. After Broumov, Brno and Liberec, today we discover the city of Budweis (České Budějovice). In 2028 it will be the third time that the Czech Republic will have a European Capital of Culture after Prague in 2000 and Plsen in 2015.
