In 2026, a Finnish city will become a European Capital of Culture. Oulu, Savonlinna and Tampere are the three finalist cities candidates for the title. On 23 April 2021 they submitted their application to be European Capital of Culture in 2026. The panel visits to the candidate cities will be organized in May 2021. The name of the European Capital of Culture will be announced on 2 June 2021 when the panel meets in Helsinki. 

We asked managers of the European capitals of culture from 2022 to 2025, five same questions to understand their expectations in a clear and concise way. Each interview is preceded by a fact sheet on that European capital of culture. The format is the same for all. At the end of the series of interviews we will try to make a synthesis of objectives, trends, expectations by the Ecocs. An international jury consisting of representatives of the GO! 2025 - The European Capital of Culture and professionals from the art field has selected five proposals from seven artists from Slovenia, Italy and France to carry out artistic interventions in Nova Gorica along the routes of two important cycling races: Giro d'Italia and the Tour of Slovenia. All European countries participate in the European Capital of Culture competition. Some countries have also activated the national competition for cities of culture. The latest is France as we have told here. By the end of the month they will choose the French city, capital of culture for 2022.

The international performing arts festival ConTempo initiated by Kaunas2022 announces an open call for creators living in Lithuania & invites to become a part of the international festival programme.

The presidents of the Parliament, the Council and the European Commission presented the joint declaration on the conference on the Future of Europe. The Joint Declaration on the Conference on the Future of Europe is very important for European cities and citizens and, in particular, for the European Capital of Culture program. The Declaration, in fact, enhances and strengthens the role of citizens for the dissemination of a European culture that overcomes nationalisms. But the word culture is missing. There is still time to rediscover it.
