Subsequently, by 27 September 2023, they will have to submit the dossier, including the title, cultural project, responsible contact person, assessment of economic-financial sustainability and objectives pursued, with the related indicators, as well as two summaries of the proposal, one short and one extended , accompanied by an exemplary high-resolution image, for the communication and promotion of the initiative by the Ministry.
The Jury, made up of seven experts from the world of culture, the arts, territorial and tourist enhancement, to be established by ministerial decree in concert with the Joint Conference, will select the 10 finalist projects by 15 December 2023. These will be publicly discussed in the hearings to be held by 14 March 2024.
Each finalist will have 30' at their disposal to present their candidacy, followed by a further thirty-minute session for questions from the Jury. The procedure will be completed by 29 March 2024, the deadline for the Jury to recommend to the Minister the candidate deemed most suitable to be awarded the title of Italian Capital of Culture for the year 2026.
The Minister will subsequently propose to confer the title to the Council of Ministers, which will formally assign it with its own resolution. After Bergamo and Brescia, Italian capital of culture 2023, the title will go to Pesaro in 2024, followed by Agrigento in 2025.
