Ecoc 2024, here the dates of the opening ceremonies

Esch 2022, The Opening ceremony Esch 2022, The Opening ceremony

The three European Capitals of Culture for 2024, Bad Ischl (Austria), Tartu (Estonia) and Bodo (Norway) have announced on their websites and social channels the dates of the opening ceremonies of their cultural programmes.

The first city to open as European Capital of Culture in 2024 will be Bad Ischl on 20 January 2024. One week later, on 27 January 2024, it will be the turn of the city of Tartu to open its capital year. While the Norwegian city of Bodo will hold its opening ceremony on 3 February 2024.

We are therefore about six months away from the first European Capital of Culture next year and the countdown has already begun with cultural events involving all local communities, not just the Capital of Culture city.

For example, Bad Ischl's cultural programme will involve all the municipalities of the 'Salzkammergut' salt region. The same for the other two ecocs, Tartu and Bodo.

The opening ceremony of the European Capitals of Culture is always an extraordinary event because it expresses the main concepts of the cultural programme that will accompany the entire year. Knowing in advance what to give is therefore a good opportunity for culture-loving travellers to plan their departure dates.
