Burgos 2031, Dance on Camino de Santiago Festival

Architecture and heritage, dance, music and avant-garde performance come together in a unique festival that brings together, each year, choreographic creations inspired by the Camino de Santiago. Works by very heterogeneous choreographers and companies that embrace an artistic breadth that is also, in a way, a space for learning and cultural encounter.

A unique festival in unique places

'Danza on Camino de Santiago’, which began as a parallel competition to the Burgos (European capital of Culture 2031 – Candidate city)  & New York International Choreography Competition, has grown year after year in size and scope to become an independent festival, the festival that traces the longest dance route in Europe, with three weeks of performances in almost twenty cities and towns in Huesca, La Rioja, Burgos, Palencia, León, Lugo, A Coruña and Vizcaya.

Over the years, ‘Dance on Camino de Santiago’ ha visited around 40 different municipalities, where works by companies such as Frantics Dance Company, Lamajara Danza, Colectivo Globo and the Italian company Bellanda Company have been performed, but also choreographers such as the Italian Giovanni Insaudo, the Cuban creators Miguel Álvarez and Javier Peláez-Tulio, Carlos Aller and Cecilia Bartolino, the French Arthur Bernard, Marc Fernández, the duo formed by Fran Martínez and Paula Quintas, the Ukrainian Kateryna Humenyuk, the Russian Ildar Tagirov and the Costa Rican performer and choreographer Erick Jiménez, among others.

The three selected works will be integrated into the Danza en el Camino Festival offering 19 performances that bring together the talent of three choreographers. This integration allows artists to experiment with the vast heritage of the Camino de Santiago and receive adequate financial support. This approach underscores our desire to establish lasting relationships with artists, supporting their continued growth and the expansion of their artistic impact.
