Launched on 21 October, the programme brings together 17 projects developed in collaboration with artists and cultural organisations as part of Oviedo's bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031.
Through different artistic disciplines, students are invited to explore the meaning of Amabilidá, the Asturian word at the heart of the city's bid. Going beyond simple politeness, the concept represents an approach to living together based on care, listening, empathy and cooperation, as well as the belief that small everyday actions can help build better communities.
The programme encourages students to take an active role in the creative process, working alongside artists to develop their own ideas and collective projects. Theatre, music, visual arts and other forms of artistic expression become tools for dialogue, creativity and cooperation.
The 17 selected projects were chosen through an open call that attracted nearly 100 proposals. The initiative also aims to strengthen connections between the artistic and educational communities, bringing contemporary cultural practices into everyday school life.
Pequeñas acciones por la Amabilidá builds on the participatory work that Oviedo 2031 has been developing with younger generations. Last May, around 2,500 schoolchildren from more than 30 schools took part in the Marcha por la Amabilidá(March for Kindness), a collective event that filled the city's streets with artistic creations produced through workshops and collaborative activities.
With this new programme, Oviedo 2031 continues to explore the role of culture as a tool for education, social inclusion and civic participation. By directly involving younger generations in creative processes, the initiative seeks to give children and young people an active role in imagining the future of their city.
