“O Nosso Laboratório / Our Lab” invites international artists and cultural organisations to explore the concept of VAGAR, the central theme of Évora_27. The proposed projects should offer creative works that reinforce human essence and imagine alternative futures, in alignment with European values. This open call is open to artists (individually or collectively) and to private or public entities, based in Europe – excluding Portugal – or outside Europe, with proven experience in their respective fields.
The open call covers the following artistic areas: Theatre, Dance, Music, Circus, Street Arts, Opera, Architecture, Design, New Media, and Interdisciplinary Artistic Projects. The selected projects will be presented in Évora and throughout the Alentejo region during 2027, across four types of spaces: cultural (such as theatres and museums); heritage (such as convents and churches); public and urban (such as streets, squares and avenues); and natural (such as gardens or the Montado, the Alentejo’s unique agroforestry ecosystem).
Aiming to bring a diversity of artistic languages and creative processes to the Alentejo, “O Nosso Laboratório / Our Lab” seeks to foster opportunities for cooperation and strengthen the international positioning of the region. Within the context of Évora_27, the Alentejo will become a vast laboratory for artistic experimentation and cultural engagement.
“With the open call ‘O Nosso Laboratório / Our Lab’, Évora_27 seeks to strengthen the connection between Alentejo and the world. This call promotes the internationalisation of the Alentejo’s cultural and artistic landscape by engaging with other global contexts. We aim not only to present innovative and inspiring international creations for the region – offering diverse perspectives on our VAGAR – but also to foster connections between local and international artists. Évora_27 will act as a platform for imagination, dialogue and co-creation, where artists from within and beyond the region can together envision new scenarios and possibilities, inspired by VAGAR, building solid bridges that transcend borders and enrich the cultural fabric of the Alentejo,” explains John Romão, Artistic Director of the Évora 2027 Association.

Applications must be submitted by 23:59 (GMT) by 13 January 2026, and the results will be announced in March 2026.
