In particular, the meetings are part of the capacity building path on digital art curating curated by Chiara Canali, art critic, journalist and independent curator.
In an era of continuous transformation, digital art and artificial intelligence are redefining the role of the curator, opening up new perspectives for the enjoyment, conservation and interpretation of artistic and cultural heritage. This series of meetings, also open to the public, was created with the aim of exploring this evolution through the contribution of international critics, art historians, artists and curators.
With an interdisciplinary approach, the programme examines the digitisation of art-historical heritage, the new frontiers of artistic creation and the future of curating in an increasingly technological context. Curating digital art means rethinking modes of narration and mediation, experimenting with new forms of archiving and dissemination, and understanding the dialogue between the artist and the technological system.
It starts on 16 May at 2.30 p.m. with the meeting 'Curating and New Technologies: Designing Exhibitions in the Digital Age" with Auronda Scalera and Alfredo Cramerotti, an internationally active curatorial duo specialised in contemporary art and new technologies. They have curated major exhibitions and programmes for museums, biennials and cultural institutions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, focusing on digital art, AI and visual culture. Their practice is characterised by an interdisciplinary and critical approach, exploring the role of curating as a cultural mediation and infrastructure of meaning in the contemporary landscape.
During the talk, the changes introduced by new technologies in curatorial practice will be analysed: from the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality to blockchain for the traceability of digital works. It will also reflect on the role of curatorship as a critical infrastructure capable of interpreting and mediating complex technological languages.
Below is the calendar of the next meetings which, like the first one, will be streamed live at 2.30 p.m. on the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation YouTube channel:
29 May - ‘Evolution of digital art from the past to the future’, with Pier Luigi Capucci

5 June - ‘Digital art: creation, dissemination and archiving’, with Davide Maria Coltro
