Strange numerical coincidences.  On July 24, the ministry of cultural heritage in Italy issued a press release announcing that there are 24 candidate cities for the Italian capital of culture in 2024. In short, everything depends on the number 24.

The European Commission invites interested experts to apply for this open call for expressions of interest for the establishment of a pool of experts for potential members of the panel of experts for the European Union action European Capital of Culture.

In 2026 the title of European Capital of Culture will be assigned to Oulu, in Finland, and to a Slovak city. Nitra, Trenčín and Žilina- Beskids are the three cities shortlisted in the competition in Slovakia. The winning city is expected to be announced in December 2021. In meantime, let’s discover the projects concepts the three cities are working on.

The Asd Cultura e Sport Matera is an association from Matera, European Capital of culture 2019. They are submitting an application for the next call of the ERASMUS + SPORT program with the aim of promoting physical activity through European Traditional Sports and Games (ETSG).

Today begins a series of interviews with the leading experts of the European Capitals of Culture.
The first one is with Steve Green. Green was appointed Chairman of the European Commission jury to select the European Capital of Culture from 2011 to 2016 and main author of the Guide to Candidates issued by the European Commission.
