From 16 september until 16 October 2021, an art competition will invite schoolchildren to participate in discovering or exploring Space. This special programme for children and young persons will play a key role in the activities that form part of the European Capital of Culture festivities.

After participating in the Ars Electronica Festival for the first time in 2020 Esch2022 is again contributing to the international event with a new project “From red earth to grey matter” is a video documenting the ongoing collaborative work of Esch2022 with leading institutions ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, HEK (House of Electronic Arts) and Ars Electronica in the planning and delivery of three ambitious exhibition projects and diverse programmes of events. The video is launched at this year`s Ars Electronica Festival (8 - 12 September).

The entire region of Esch2022, including Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxemburg's second biggest town, the 10 Pro-Sud towns in Luxembourg and the 8 towns in France that make up the Communauté de Communes Pays Haut Val d'Alzette (CCPHVA) will be put on the radar of tourists thanks to the project Esch2022, European Capital of Culture. At the breakfast meeting on 26 August, the Esch2022 team and its partners presented their strategy supported by a wide range of projects and initiatives that will highlight the region and enhance its long term development.

The performing arts are an essential part of the Esch 2022 programme, which will be implemented in partnership with institutions and companies from Luxembourg (Escher Theater, TROIS CL, Théâtre National du Luxembourg, Kulturfabrik, to name but a few) and the CCPHVA (L’Arche de Micheville, a.o.) as well as institutions from the Grand Est such as the Théâtre National de Strasbourg (shows for young audiences) and NEST – Centre Dramatique National transfrontalier de Thionville (through a new production around cross-border commuting).

From the end of September until the beginning of December 2021, Esch2022 invites people to take part in panel discussions, workshops and special events with artists and project partners. These serve to prepare and help shape the REMIX Opening on 26 February and show the various facets of Esch2022 in advance; they offer the opportunity to help shape the future of the 19 participating municipalities.
