As previously reported by our online webmagazine, Aalborg is one of the Danish cities to have put itself forward as a candidate for European Capital of Culture in 2032.
The competition between cities hoping to win the title of European Capital of Culture in 2032 is now in full flow in Denmark. This will be the third time: the first time was Copenhagen in 1996, the second Aarhus in 2017.
In 2032, Denmark will share the title with a city in Bulgaria.
In 2032, Denmark and Bulgaria will designate the European Capital of Culture. After Copenhagen in 1996 and Aarhus in 2017, this will be Denmark's third European Capital of Culture. For Bulgaria, it will be the second time after Plovdiv in 2019. In Denmark, several cities have already decided to apply for 2032, including Elsinore.
In 2032, Bulgaria and Denmark will be the European Capitals of Culture. After Plovdiv, which shared the title with Matera, Italy, in 2019, it will be Bulgaria's turn again. Here, some cities are already taking steps to be ready in time for the launch of the candidacy and the preparation of the dossier.
In 2032, Bulgaria and Denmark will select their cities for the title of European Capital of Culture. The procedure will open in 2026 when the two countries will officially invite their cities to prepare their candidacies.
