The minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, who attended the jury selection, said: “The Nomination of the Italian cultural capital for 2022 is a signal for the future for the (post_COVID) recovery”. He said the selection “starts a virtuous and attractive process". Many actors and actresses (like Toni Servillo, who played “The Great Beauty” of Paolo Sorrentino), writers and artists sponsored the island. 

The topic of the project is “Culture never isolates”. “Procida will be a laboratory for the cultural restart of Italy after the complex period of the pandemic”, said Agostino Riitano, director of “Procida 2022”, who was project manager of “Matera 2019”.

The Mayor of Procida Dino Ambrosino said: “It is a huge joy, Procida is a symbol for so many communities of the Campania region. Culture can be an input for the recovery”. He added: "It is an extraordinary opportunity for a small island, we will work hard to make Italy proud of this choice".
