Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue 2026: 183 applications from 28 Euro-Mediterranean countries received in response to the Anna Lindh Foundation’s call for proposals for Matera and Tétouan.
The Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation and the City of Matera welcome with satisfaction the results of the call launched by the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) in support of cultural and intercultural activities in the two Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue 2026, Matera and Tétouan.
Opened on March 5 and closed on April 4, 2026, the call for proposals received 183 applications from 28 countries in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
This result exceeds expectations and demonstrates how the title of Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue is capable of mobilizing cultural organizations and civil society far beyond the borders of the two designated cities.
Organizations from Algeria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, North Macedonia, the Netherlands, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Syria, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey responded to the call.
The ALF has published the list of provisionally selected projects: 13 organizations out of 183, with a selection rate of less than 8%, confirming the high level of competition in the call for proposals. Among those selected are three Italian organizations, along with organizations from Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Morocco, North Macedonia, Portugal, and Spain.
Each selected organization identified, already during the application phase, a local partner in Matera or Tétouan. In the coming days, details will be available regarding the planned activities in the two cities and the local entities involved.
The ALF call enriches the broader cultural program “Terre Immerse” of Matera MCCD 2026 and complements the ongoing call for applications for the “Terre Immerse – Euromediterranean Creative Communities” artist residencies.
