Leiria was, if not the first, one of the first Portuguese cities to state - long ago on 22nd may of 2015 - the intention to present an application to European Capital of Culture 2027. It was also one of the first to, right after the first pandemic wave, reiterate this intention.

EcocNews begins a journey among the 12 Portuguese cities competing to become the European Capital of Culture in 2027. We asked all the application teams three same questions. Let's start with Ponta Delgada, Azores.

Here are the nine artists selected to participate in the Azores 2027 Art in Residency pilot program. “9 x 9 - Artists are Islands, Islands are Artists” is a project of the Azores 2027, in partnership with Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Center and with Part'Ilha - Cultural Association for Local Development. Started on 30 September it will end on 4 December 2021.

Aveiro is one of portuguese cities that bidding to become the European Capital of Culture in 2027. They believe that Aveiro 2027 will be the transformation they all want for the City, for Europe and for the World.

In accordance with the calendar set out in the Annex to the Decision, in 2027 the European Capital of Culture will be given the name of one Latvian and one Portuguese city. For Latvia, this is the second opportunity to give the name of the European Capital of Culture to one of the cities. In short list there are four cities: Valmiera, Liepāja, Daugavpils, Jūrmala. Portugal had 3 European Capitals of Culture: Lisbon, in 1994, Porto, in 2001, and Guimarães, in 2012.
