In May 2022, the Shadow Play Theatre KAKASHIZA is scheduled to organize their performance tour in Europe, including this year’s European Capitals of Culture Esch (Luxembourg) and Kaunas (Lithuania). Their shadow fantasy theater works and hand shadow performances have been highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad.

On 12-13 May, Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 will open a new Summer Stage, the essential cultural gift of the warm season for the city. Every Thursday to Sunday until mid-September, Kaunas Town Hall Square will host concerts, performances and other creative activities by Lithuanian artists and international guests.

Kaunas and Berlin are joining forces to give Kaunas residents and guests a special experience. International artists from B_Tour (Berlin) and local tour guides from Ekskursas (Kaunas) have united their expertise and created a programme of three guided tours titled Grande Saison SanuaK.

At the end of April, Kaunas will be flooded with Japanese culture – from April 25 to May 1, the festival “Japanese Days in Kaunas WA” will take place.

The most anticipated events of the festival include: a joint project of dance theatre Aura & the famous Japanese contemporary dance choreographer Ryu Suzuki, a performance of Aoi Yamaguchi – world-famous calligraphy artist, Jiutamai dance performances by Tokijyo Hanasaki accompanied by Gidayu-Bushi music, traditional cherry blossom admiration festival “Hanami Matsuri” with traditions lasting more than 1000 years, a concert of one of the most famous traditional Japanese instrument biwa artists Tanaka Kyokusen, exhibitions, lectures, cinema, concerts and others events.

Six thousand people, holding each other’s shoulders and sending the energy of love to Ukraine, currently fighting for its freedom. It was not a protest or a rally in the central city square. It was six thousand people gathered in Kaunas on the evening of 31 March to hear Marina Abramović talk about performance art and life in art. The most recognisable art world figure to visit Kaunas started the evening with the following words: “I have an additional part of the lecture because of the current war situation.”
