Kaunas 2022, last steps of the Japanese days

Kaunas 2022, Japan days 2022 Kaunas 2022, Japan days 2022

The "Japan Days in Kaunas WA" are coming to an end and were the occasion for the visit of the Eu Japan Fest delegation led by Chairman Nobuyuki Hirano.

More than 30 Japanese artists and performers beautifully organized by the Director of the festival, Emilija Sakaliene, unveiled the spirit of Japan through digital art, modern dance, music, photography, calligraphy and other forms of art. It was the continuation of "Kaunas European capital of culture 2022" during which Japanese artists were unable to leave their country due to the pandemic. Mr Hirano accompanied by Secretary General Mr. Shuji Kogi and Mrs. Saori Hakoda had a long and warm meeting with Mayor Visvaldas Matijosaitis and his team. It was an opportunity to learn about the numerous development projects of the city. Particularly significant and touching was the visit to the Sugihara Museum, welcomed by the Chairman of the board of the Sugihara Foundation "Diplomats for life", Mr. Ramunas Garbaravicius. The Sugihara Foundation is a museum and a public institution, founded in 1999 by Lithuanian and Belgian intellectuals and businessmen, in order to commemorate the name of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara. Along with Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk and many other diplomats, Sugihara saved thousands of European Jews and showed an example of kindness and righteousness, while also reminding the young generation of the dangers looming in the human nature. The exhibition "Oiemoto - The “Essence of Japanese tradition" by Hiroshi Seo was inaugurated at the Museum. The famous photographer unveils the essence of the more than 1200 years old oiemoto tradition of mastering various Japanese artistic creations. “Music for peace” was a beautiful concert filled by the music by Tsugaru shamisen musician Hibiki Ichikawa, singer Utako Toyama, joint songs by Yonago city youth choir “Little Phoenix” and Kachaunaskas music school children choir “Perpetuum Mobile”. Gifi Nakatsugawa city ji-kabuki performed the traditional form of Japanese theatre. But absolutely astonishing was the dance “re-solarization” of Kaunas Dance Theatre Aura (with dancers coming from many different counties) on a digital work by Tatsuru Arai. Finally, Hiroaki Umeda danced the work "Intensional Particle": the artist had already danced in Matera, a memorable performance in the main square of the city European Capital of Culture 2019.
