In spring 2024, "Musical Frühling" presents the German-language premiere of "Dear Evan Hansen", one of the most successful international musicals in recent years. The initiative is part of the cultural programme of Salzkammergut 2025, European Capital of Culture.

The musical, created by the successful duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (known for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN or LA LA LAND) with a libretto by Steven Levenson, received six Tony Awards in 2017, including "Best Musical". The musical's album recording also won a Grammy in 2018. In 2021, the musical made its way to the big screen. Following successful runs on Broadway and the West End, this outstanding and special musical will soon be experienced in a new production in Gmunden.

Teenager Evan Hansen suffers from anxiety disorders and is considered an unusual outsider at school. One of several self-addressed letters that he is supposed to write as part of his therapy sessions accidentally ends up in the hands of his classmate Connor Murphy, who commits suicide a short time later. When Connor's parents find the letter at their son's house, they assume that Evan was his best friend. Evan becomes increasingly entangled in a web of lies from which he can only escape when he recognizes and accepts himself as he is. The core message of the piece is: You are not alone. And that there is always a way out of the dark thoughts, and that you are seen and heard as a supposed outsider.
