On its way from temporary to contemporary, Kaunas has also become the city of contemporary art. Even before the official opening of the Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022 programme, art lovers have marked routes to the exclusive events, exhibitions, installations and performances held in the city. The year 2022 will enhance the contemporary vibes with international highlights, brave declarations and globally praised personalities.

A unique artistic celebration in Europe, Doček, will open the European Capital of Culture year in Novi Sad, with a programme that will be seen for the first time in this area.

In preparation for the opening of Esch2022, 350 pupils met astronauts Claudie Haigneré and Reinhold Ewald as part of a drawing competition for schoolchildren with a passion for space.

“Today the aim is to introduce you to 3 exciting projects from the European Capital of Culture Esch2022, where the theme of the New European Bauhaus can be found. Starting with the Belval area, proceeding with a specific Esch2022 project and finally a future-oriented showcase project in the Esch2022 region”, said Thierry Kruchten, Head of Tourism, Mobility and Sustainable Development - Esch 2022.

"The New European Bauhaus and Kaunas are very much related“ said Dovilė Butnoriūtė, Head of International Relations of Kaunas 2022. The occasion was the International Forum, the opening event of the European Capitals of Culture Day, organized by the Foundation in partnership with the Commissioner General of Italy and under the patronage of the European Commission.
