The European Pavilion in Rome, November 17 – 19

Rome Rome

For the first time since the launch of the European Pavilion in 2021, ten cultural organisations from across Europe, and more than thirty artists, thinkers, and researchers from all over the continent come together in a public arts programme in the Italian capital.

Over the course of three days a rich programme of exhibitions, talks, performances and workshops will inspire visitors to think about the current state of Europe and how to move forward. The event touches on themes as the European Union’s migration policies, European landscapes and the future of food, the many voices and languages that make up Europe, and the state of peace and democracy.

Programme and artists Highlights in the programme are:

A panel discussion on Italy and the future of the EU with Giuseppe Laterza (publisher), Lorenzo Marsili (philosopher) and Elly Schlein (Italian MP)

A presentation by artist Ludovica Carbotta of her new work I Come from Outside of Myself, followed by a perfomative walk

A video installation by the antiwarcoalition collective and an assembly that gives voice to collective and individual initiatives developed in response to the war in Ukraine

A new virtual reality installation by the EUPavilion collective (Anna Livia Friel and Marco Provinciali) which presents eight models for a European pavilion in Venice’s Giardinis designed by Armature Globale, BB with Tomaso De Luca, Jasmina Cibic, Diogo Passarinho Studio, Plan Común, Something Fantastic, TEN, and Evita Vasiljeva

A guided tour of Museo delle Civita followed by a discussion on the “Colonial Monuments Initiative” with artists Maria Thereza Alves and Hervé Youmbi, curators Matteo Lucchetti and Sepake Angiama, and dramaturg Eva-Maria Bertschy.

The European Pavilion in Rome is co-organized by the European Cultural Foundation and Fondazione Studio Rizoma.

The programme is co-curated by European Cultural Foundation Programme Manager Lore Gablier and Ukrainian curator Lesia Kulchynska.

The European Pavilion is part of the VIP programme of Roma Arte in Nuvola art fair, which takes place from November 17 – 20.

About The European Pavilion Throughout history culture has been inspirational and vital to our everyday lives. That is why the European Cultural Foundation launched The European Pavilion, a European artistic platform to continuously rethink and challenge what Europe means today and what it can become tomorrow.

In 2021-2022 the participating organisations - the European Pavilion studios - are: Ambasada Kultury (Berlin-Vilnius), ARNA (Harlösa, Sweden), Brunnenpassage (Vienna), EUPavilion (Rome-Zürich), Fondazione Studio Rizoma (Palermo-Rome), Iniva (London), L’Internationale (Antwerp, Barcelona, Eindhoven, Ljubljana, Istanbul, Madrid, Warsaw), OGR (Turin), State of Concept (Athens) and Studio Wild (Amsterdam). This is the first time the European Pavilion studios jointly present their work. In 2021-2022, the European Pavilion is supported by Fondazione CRT and is developed in partnership with Camargo Foundation and Kultura Nova Foundation.
