The entire region of Esch2022, including Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxemburg's second biggest town, the 10 Pro-Sud towns in Luxembourg and the 8 towns in France that make up the Communauté de Communes Pays Haut Val d'Alzette (CCPHVA) will be put on the radar of tourists thanks to the project Esch2022, European Capital of Culture. At the breakfast meeting on 26 August, the Esch2022 team and its partners presented their strategy supported by a wide range of projects and initiatives that will highlight the region and enhance its long term development.

The performing arts are an essential part of the Esch 2022 programme, which will be implemented in partnership with institutions and companies from Luxembourg (Escher Theater, TROIS CL, Théâtre National du Luxembourg, Kulturfabrik, to name but a few) and the CCPHVA (L’Arche de Micheville, a.o.) as well as institutions from the Grand Est such as the Théâtre National de Strasbourg (shows for young audiences) and NEST – Centre Dramatique National transfrontalier de Thionville (through a new production around cross-border commuting).

From the end of September until the beginning of December 2021, Esch2022 invites people to take part in panel discussions, workshops and special events with artists and project partners. These serve to prepare and help shape the REMIX Opening on 26 February and show the various facets of Esch2022 in advance; they offer the opportunity to help shape the future of the 19 participating municipalities. Free admission, reservation is required.

The Vëlosummer is a joint initiative of the General Directorate for Tourism and the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works. In collaboration with 65 municipalities, a number of roads throughout the country will be reserved for cyclists from 31st July onwards. This is a special occasion to enjoy leisurely rides on trafficfree roads. Routes will be open to the public either on weekends, or even throughout the whole month of August.

The Luxembourgish artist Paul Kirps will display his exposition Module 3 – Section B from 10 July until 11 September. At Annexe22 in Esch’s “Brillplaz” artists from Luxembourg present their work and installations to local residents and visitors.
