With a Bidbook entitled "Cultivating curiosity" the Slovak city of Trencin has won the title of European capital of culture for 2026. EcocNews is very proud of this result because it is a partner of Trencin2026. Trencin will share the title of European Capital of Culture with the Finnish city of Oulu in 2026.

On Tuesday, November 2nd, Trencin 2026 team sent out a hundred-page application - the Bid book, which contains the programme of Trenčín as the European Capital of Culture from 2021 to 2026. The Bid book was carried down from the castle.

During two days in October, culture came directly to passengers and passers-by on seven railway stations in Trenčín region. Popular actor and native of Trenčín, Pavol Seriš performed in the premises of the stations in Trenčín, Trenčianská Teplá, Púchov, Považská Bystrica, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Partizánske and Myjava.

Band rehearsals, concerts, DJ sets, and BBQs. Trenčín’s skatepark community of skaters, bikers, scooter riders and youth in general can use a fully equipped garage for music and other events. This project that supports Trenčín’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture creates opportunities for specific city communities to organise their own needs-based cultural programme. Garage opened on 25 September with music performances by rapper Gleb and the Trenčín bands Fraktúra, Cherry Street and Fyasco.

Trencin 2026 launches a social contest on Facebook and Instagram among citizens on the theme: Will Europe in 5 years be…?
