Collective Moves labs open up a new paradigm of working, by bringing art, artists, people and place into contact with combined arts co-creation.
They are inviting applications from European creative practitioners, artists, writers, musicians, dancers and performers interested in joining a new collective and taking part in co-creation laboratories. Here creatives from different countries will come together to play and co-create explorative site specific performance or immersive installation for public showcase.
Between 2021 and 2023 they run 5 collective moves labs online and face-to-face in 5 European towns or cities. Each location is committed to supporting its artists cultural ecosystem and ambition. Each lab have 18 places available and priority is given to creatives from or connected to Liverpool (Bootle), Gothenburg, Bad Ischl, Turku, Veszprém, Magdeburg and/or Limerick.
The model of co-creation is inspired by a seventeenth and eighteenth century European network of pirate privateers known as the 'Guardians of Liberty'; who, legend tells, founded 'Libertalia' settlements on the principles of connection, compassion and self-governance.
Not only will they explore whether the pirate way can be applied to how they make art today, they will also invite you to use their hidden stories as the basis for the work you will co-create in your lab. Each lab craft a new pirate story specific to the city hosting the lab, and use performance or installation to bring the pirate way to life, as they unearth the city's treasures to found Libertalia. Each lab result in a public performance of the piece you co-created.

What to expect
See the Collective Moves YouTube channel to watch films from a recent face-to-face lab and the nature of the work created through the online co-creation labs. www.collectivemoves.com is a new website that will share the story of what happens.
The labs are a sharing supportive space to play creatively and push boundaries of what is and isn't possible. They provide the opportunity to found new working relationships with other artists like you from other countries, and to build new skills. So that you can access the resources, expertise and support network to realize your creative ambitions.
They will work across a range of art forms informed by the art piece being co-created. This can include aerial movement, physical theatre, clowning, music and percussion, puppetry, sound, structural makes, video(mapping), backstage. You will also get the opportunity to work with the local community from the host city in co-creating your production.
During the 'in person' labs they will eat and create together. International artists visiting a host city will be given shared accommodation and flights. This is a capacity building, artist mobility and network exchange opportunity that is supported by Creative Europe and the wider Collective Moves partnership. Together they are funding the cost of your place on the lab. It may be possible for artists to attend more than one lab.
