Bradford 2025, Open call for Press Officer

Bradford district’s year of culture is set to deliver more than 1,000 new performances and events including 365 artist commissions, a series of major arts festivals and major national and international collaborations.

To do this they need a team of dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic people. They’re at the start of their journey and have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Press Officer, reporting to the Press and PR Manager, to join the team. Deadline: 4 august.

They’re at the start of their journey and have a brilliant opportunity for someone to join the team to build anticipation for BD25, to help bring it to life for people in the district and beyond. You’ll be central to the press office, and you’ll be at the beating heart of all of the fun, innovative, original and distinctive contributions to BD25.

They’re looking for someone who is tenacious, who is creative and can identify the best angle to cut through the noise and capture the interest of journalists.

You’ll have strong writing skills, with a keen eye for detail and won’t be afraid to ask the questions a journalist would ask. You’ll have some of your own existing media contacts that you can stress test media hooks with, and you’ll have strong administrative skills, with a stickler for keeping coverage logs and media lists updated. You will be responsible for drafting and preparing media materials, building relationships with key contacts across media verticals, and will be a key day-to-day contact for a range of stakeholders, including agencies and programme partners.

To do this role, you will work closely with other colleagues in the Audiences team, alongside other departments, to effectively showcase and promote BD25’s programme and activities.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead on the day-to-day preparation of media materials, ranging from creating briefing documents for BD25 spokespeople attending events with media, to drafting press releases and features for publication in wide-ranging media outlets (cultural, local, regional, national, international)

• Proactively develop relationships with key media, building a rapport with engaged media and utilising your personality to converse with other journalists to bring them on the BD25 journey with us Build and maintain relationships with the wider team and external partners to develop engaging media materials and opportunities

• Identify and monitor key cultural and community influencers and bloggers in partnership with the Social Media Officer, collaborating to develop and deliver relevant influencer campaigns over the BD25 period

• Take a key role in monitoring sector stakeholders and political figures to identify opportunities and challenges that could arise and impact media engagement • Support the development and implementation of paid media advertorial content and media partnership relationships (as appropriate)

• Monitor, analyse and report on performance of PR activity under the guidance of the Press and PR Manager You will have:

• Experience of working in a press office and delivering campaigns for a culture or values-led organisation.

• A really engaging written communications style while being a stickler for good grammar and consistent tone of voice.

• The confidence to work with and support the management of broadcast crews. • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, managing competing demands and personalities to deliver results.

• A personality that means you’re always curious and thinking about what’s next – you’re not just looking for the latest trends, you’re close enough to the news agenda to spot changes in how key journalists are reporting on stories and recognising that we need to adapt our approach. • The confidence to work collaboratively with and present to internal colleagues, helping them understand what makes a good story and what doesn’t.

• A commitment to best practice in PR and your admin skills are second to none – you can be relied upon to keep a coverage log updated and in good shape, you relish showcasing what you’ve achieved in a report, and you’re a pro at action-based meeting notes.

• Experience working with creative people doing creative things.

Benefits include:

• Up to £32,500 dependent upon previous experience.

• 37 hours per week worked flexibly Monday to Friday, predominantly office based (City Centre location).

• 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
