The city of Elefsina introduces itself to the general public with the Exhibition Mystery 29_Eleusis at the Benaki Museum / 138 Pireos Str. An emblematic project that serves as a precursor to the programme of 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, co-organized with the Benaki Museum, about the visible and invisible history of Elefsina.

October in Elefsina will be a month filled with theater, visual arts, interdisciplinary art projects under the light of the full moon, educational programmes for our younger visitors and open calls to artistic projects. 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture organizes a rich programme of events, open to all ages, while simultaneously inaugurating a major Exhibition on Elefsina at the Benaki Museum / 138 Pireos Str.

Tourism is one of the fundamental themes of the competition for the European capital of culture because the title undoubtedly allows cities to be highly visible. And, in our opinion, it is no coincidence that 4 ecoc out of 7 cities have entered the short list to become the European capital of Smart tourism for 2023.

2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with the Aeschylia Festival 2022, presents the in situ visual arts installation “Straw falling on concrete floors” by internationally renowned visual artist Kostas Velonis, at the courtyard behind the open theater of the Old Olive Mill.

The 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture in collaboration with The Festival Academy, an initiative of the European Festivals Association – EFA, invite the people to participate in the 21st edition of the Atelier for Young Festival Managers, which will take place from 21 to 27 June of 2023 in Elefsina.
