Already 10 Ukrainian cities support the candidacy of Rzeszów as the European Capital of Culture in 2029, declaring their interest and readiness to implement joint projects.

Meanwhile, the petition launched by EcocNews and addressed to the European Commission for Ukraine, as a country preparing to join the EU, to nominate a European Capital of Culture in 2030 is still alive here.

Having seen which Swedish cities are preparing to apply to become European Capital of Culture in 2029, we now see what the situation is in Poland, the other state that, together with Sweden, will have to nominate the ecoc. For Poland the deadline for submitting an application is September 2023.

The Swedish Arts Council today published a call for applications for the designation as European Capital of Culture 2029. For Sweden, it will be the third time that one of our cities has been nominated. In 1998 Stockholm received the title of capital of culture, and in 2014 two European cities received this title: Umeå in Sweden and Riga in Latvia.

In accordance with the calendar set out in the Annex of Decision No 445/2014/EU as amended by Decision (EU) 2017/1545, the title of European Capital of Culture shall be awarded in 2029 to one city in Poland and to one city in Sweden.

Sweden and Poland are the countries that in 2029 will indicate the European capital of culture. For Poland the European Capital of Culture 2029 will be Lublin. For Sweden the European Capital of Culture will be Kiruna.
