How will the future be? what legacy will the European capital of culture leave behind?  Timisoara 2023 has tried to answer these questions during a meeting held in recent days.

More than 60 cultural partners carrying out projects of the Timişoara Cultural Programme 2023, representatives of the financiers (Timişoara City Hall and Timiş County Council) and members of the team of the European Capital of Culture Association of Timişoara, meeting to coordinate on collaboration in the next period and explore the directions to follow to have together a cultural heritage, after 2023.

Working session How do we build the legacy of Timisoara 2023 together? focused in particular on the components of the legacy of the Timişoara 2023 project – European Capital of Culture, but also on group discussions, in order to better understand the programs implemented to date and find solutions to have integrated cultural events and programs in the coming years.

The cultural programme is the sum of the proposals of public institutions and non-governmental organisations involved in the period of application or subsequently attracted by the call for projects for projectors, but all follow certain directions that leave a legacy to Timişoara, but also to the entire region. Six of the programs in the Application File were presented at this meeting, namely Encounters, Bega!, La Pas, Living Spaces, CiviCulture and MultipleXity, the Center for Art, Technology and Experiment.

The active participation of the public, co-creation with the public, urban regeneration through cultural events and the creation of artistic objects in neighborhoods or in situ interventions, in which art merges with technology, are new directions or very little present in the Romanian cultural landscape, and Timişoara can once again become an engine and inspiration at regional and national level.

The partners discussed in particular the changes they want for the city in the coming years: sustainable cultural events, such as Timişoara can become a responsible city, with clean and sustainable tourism, with public spaces that can turn into cultural spaces, but also what they want to do in the city through each project.

Specialized working groups, better collaboration between local partners are both the wishes of the partners and what the European Association capital of timisoara culture can offer concretely in the next period to strengthen an innovative cultural program, the implementation of which has started gradually, from 2018 and should culminate in 2023, the year of the title of European Capital of Culture.

The working meeting of timişoara partners – European Capital of Culture was the first in a longer series of working meetings.
