As part of the approach activities for the European Capital of Culture year, Salzkammergut 2024 organised a jazz concert on 23 July in Bad Ischl.

The thesis that the artistic development of (European) jazz is not continuous, i.e. it is not a constant growth towards more and more (e.g. in rhythmic complexity, melodic refinement, harmonic density, improvisational freedom, etc.), but rather takes place in quantum leaps (in which new stages of development seem to be reached out of nowhere), will be investigated in a two-year research project at JIM.
The premiere of the concert on 15 June 2023 (Youth Centre, YOUZ Bad Ischl) and 16 June 2023 ("AgrarBildungsZentrum Salzkammergut", hosted by Anna Lang's "SeeTonWellen Festival Altmünster") is thus an interim report on the state of the art, presented and framed by the event of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024.
The performers are teachers, students and alumni of the JIM and regional musicians. The two renowned Salzburg musicians, Christian Kronreif and Fabian Rucker, studied in Linz and are now back as jazz saxophone professors at the Institute for Jazz and Improvised Music at the private Bruckner University.
Lukas Aichinger, from Bad Ischl, also studied at JIM, now lives in Vienna and plays in various bands and projects (Znap, AHL6), founded his own label "Waschsalon Records" and won the Ö1 Jazz scholarship in 2019.
Andreas Lachberger, from Altmünster, is a member of the Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra, lecturer at the annual Big Band Workshop, educator, music director of the "Upper Austrian Youth Jazz Orchestra" and performs with his own "Andreas Lachberger Quartett" mainly with his own compositions.
