As Composer/Musical Director he will work closely with the production company Walk the Plank's team; Artistic Director Liz Pugh, Creative Producer John Wassell and Design Consultant Jenny Hall, as well as the roles of Performance Director and Production Designer (under recruitment), to create an event that resonates with both locals and a wide, international audience. 

The Composer/Musical Director will be responsible for composing a score to underpin the interactive event combining performance, puppetry, dance, games, boats, flags and sculptures. The score can involve singers, choirs, bands and sounds. Much of the material will be pre-recorded, but will also be performed live during the event. It will all be part of a modern celebration of Midsummer's Eve, but with a twist: The final elements only happen if the audience helps out. 

The composer/musical director will combine different musical genres to build a score that blends traditional, modern and classical music, and may consist of a combination of original works, existing music and sound.

There will be a cast of up to 8 professional performers - "Mischief Makers", as well as an ensemble of 16-24 non-professional performers, puppeteers, dancers and singers from the region. Other professional performers, musicians or singers will be hired as needed.     

You should have experience in writing music for film, television or theater. Ability to work with singers, choirs, bands and/or orchestras is desirable.  

You should have experience from theater, opera, film, television or larger outdoor events, and thrive on the demands of a theater performance that combines large scale, ambition and a combination of professional and non-professional participants. 

 You should be able to write site-sensitively for the landscape and liminal space where land meets sea at Breivika in Bodø. The selected candidate will be part of the creative team that together will shape the final form of the performance. 

Monthly production meetings will be held and a schedule for the creation of the score will be agreed in collaboration with the candidate, with a final delivery deadline of May 2024. 

The event will be filmed and may be shown live on national television.
