The Capacity Building for European Capitals of Culture project , launched in 2019 and funded by the European Union, offers professionals from a range of disciplines the opportunity to be part of a European database gathering a pool of experts to provide training and capacity-building services, in specific areas of interest and relevance, to designated upcoming European Capitals of Culture.
European capital of culture is woman. Always. And not only because capital is a feminine noun, but also because the mother of this competition is Melina Mercouri.
Sweden and Poland are the countries that in 2029 will indicate the European capital of culture. For Poland the European Capital of Culture 2029 will be Lublin. For Sweden the European Capital of Culture will be Kiruna.
In the end, Bourges will be the European Capital of Culture in 2028 for France. A title it will share with Budweiss for the Czech Republic and Skopje for North Macedonia.
The announcement was made by the president of the evaluation panel, Rossella Tarantino, who made it clear from her words that it was not an easy choice.
In 2027, Portugal and Latvia will host the European capital of culture. Here are the first candidate cities: Faro, Funchal, Évora, Braga , Coimbra, Leiria (Rede Cultura), Guarda, Oeiras , Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Ponta Delgada for Portugal; Jelgava, Jekabpils, Ogre, Jurmala, Daugavpils, Valmiera, Liepāja, Kuldiga and Cēsis for Latvia. But in short list are only: Valmiera, Liepāja, Daugavpils, Jūrmala.
