Trencin 2026, new life to the neighbourhoods

Trencin 2026 Trencin 2026

There is an increasingly important issue affecting cities and the lives of citizens: it is the relationship between the centre and the neighbourhood.

They are often two separate units, separated by a wall that is difficult to break down. And so while the city centre becomes increasingly crowded, full of commercial, cultural and tourist activities, the neighbourhoods are left to their fate, isolated and autonomous from the rest of city life. For these reasons, there is a growing need to revitalise neighbourhoods by means of decisions that are not handed down from above, but by entrusting citizens with the choice of ideas and things to do to connect the centre and the suburbs, to revitalise the life of these urban spaces, to make sociality, sharing, and community grow.

Many European cultural capitals are moving in this direction, including Trencin, which has organised a series of activities to revitalise neighbourhoods.

In today's fast-paced world, we often overlook the importance of community and its impact on the quality of our lives. The neighborhoods are more than just places we pass through; they are places where we meet, share, and create memories. The "Živé susedstvá" event series represents a series of events aimed at revitalizing the neighborhoods and encouraging their residents to actively participate in revitalizing their surroundings with cultural programs.

What are "Živé susedstvá"?
"Živé susedstvá" support cultural life and encourage the residents of the Trenčín neighborhoods to become active participants in its development within the communities. Through a series of meetings in various locations, they aim to create a space for generating ideas that will bring more life to their neighborhoods.

The "Živé susedstvá" events will take place soon:
Južanka area – April 9, 2024, at 17:00, KC Aktivity
Dlhé Hony area – April 11, 2024, at 17:00, Družba Drama Studio

You can find more information here.

Each event starts with a short presentation, followed by an outdoor activity focused on exploring and getting to know the neighborhood. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas on how to bring more life to their neighborhoods. In addition to physically attending the events, we invite you to fill out the available form, which you can also complete if you cannot participate in person.

The event is the first activity of the "Čo je v meste, to sa počíta" project, organized by the European Capital of Culture Trenčín 2026. It connects and supports people to cultivate a lively cultural program in their neighborhoods – from picnics to theater performances.
