Artistic messages of peace and help to refugees from Ukraine are a new initiative of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.

Through its residential programme ‘Artist in Residence’, an open call has been sent to artists from Ukraine to stay and create in Novi Sad, in the field of visual arts and literature. For that occasion, the Foundation will provide them with accommodation and all the necessary materials for work.

The results of the works of artists from Ukraine will be subsequently included in the official programme of the European Capital of Culture during June and July of this year, within the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme arch. More information about the invitation, application, and conditions can be found in the Open Call.

The team behind ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation is providing free public transport to refugees from Ukraine, who are accommodated in Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the City Administration for Social and Child Protection of the City of Novi Sad.

‘As those who have experienced conflicts, sanctions, and exile first-hand, in this area, we know how loud the war is. That is because it feeds on hatred – of those who lead it, and even more of those who follow it. We wanted to send the loudest message of peace through the silence of creativity and compassion. When everything is over, including the superficial solidarity through social media, we know that the silence and indifference towards others’ misfortunes and suffering can ring out even louder for those hurting,’ said the CEO of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, Nemanja Milenković.

Based on the cooperation and information from the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the City Administration for Social and Child Protection of the City of Novi Sad, the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation will continue with the initiative to help and support refugees from Ukraine.
