Cáceres’ bid for European Capital of Culture in 2031 has opened the public submission period for artistic and cultural projects.
Thus, any individual, collective, association, or creative entity may submit their proposal until November 1st, regardless of the artistic discipline, size, or location of the project. This initiative continues the active listening process promoted from the moment the bid was launched. Proposals will be collected through the official bid website, and the goal is for approved projects to be included in the bidbook, the city’s proposal document.
As explained by Jorge Suárez, Councilor for Culture, Education, and Commerce of the Cáceres City Council, and Iris Jugo, General Coordinator of the Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium, the projects must be “coherent” with the objectives of the Cáceres bid. Thus, they must fit into the strategic axes of the bid, focusing on the development of a culture that promotes urban-rural dialogue; fosters environmental sustainability and the European Green Deal; and improves accessibility.
In addition, projects are being sought that encourage citizen participation; build international connections; and reinforce European values such as cooperation, solidarity, and peace.
A committee made up of the Cáceres 2031 team and cultural experts will evaluate each proposal based on its creativity, impact, viability, and alignment with European and Cáceres 2031 bid criteria. The selected projects will receive support in various forms, which will be specified and developed in a personalized manner according to the characteristics and needs of each project.
It should be noted that the proposals included in the bidbook will be part of the overall Cáceres 2031 project.
Both Jorge Suárez and Iris Jugo encouraged Cáceres entities and companies, as well as groups and individuals, to submit their initiatives and join Cáceres 2031, “a project in which, together, we will define the outlines of the city we dream of, without setting limits and without leaving anyone behind.” Suárez emphasized that it is “a winning project” that “is on the right path and will transform the city.”
"Artists are at the heart of the European Capital of Culture", they write on the form.
"Without you, there is no program, no dialogue; the vision is incomplete. Cáceres 2031 invites you to share your creativity and become part of a cultural journey that will transform our city and connect it with Europe and the world. As creatives, we know the value of every project. Your proposal is safe with us, and will be treated with the respect and care it deserves.
How to take part. We need your ideas—whether individual or collective. Tell us how your project fosters urban–rural dialogue, promotes a sustainable culture, or enhances well-being and accessibility. Show us how it encourages citizen participation, builds international connections, or strengthens European values such as cooperation, solidarity, and peace.
Together, we will create a year-long program filled with creativity, innovation, and inspiration. Cáceres 2031 is your stage. Let’s build it together".
