Bouwurk has been nominated for a Dezeen Award in the Installation Design category. Bouwurk is the temporary community house, or mienskipshûs, that Arcadia and the Municipality of Leeuwarden built at the foot of the Oldehove tower in Leeuwarden in the summer of 2025. It was designed by Overtreders W. Besides the jury award, Bouwurk is also competing for the public vote, which is open until 16 October.

 Fryslân is a region with a strong identity and a deep sense of community. Rural, northern, and proudly multilingual, it has long been a place where tradition and creativity coexist. In 2018, when Leeuwarden-Fryslân became European Capital of Culture, the region showed Europe what a small territory with a big imagination can achieve. That momentum did not fade. It evolved into Arcadia.

The Foundation “European Capital of Culture – Skopje 2028” announces an Open Call for Expressions of Interest for the selection of domestic and international independent professional experts who may be engaged to provide advisory, professional and programme support to the “European Capital of Culture – Skopje 2028” programme. Application deadline: 19 September 2026.

The Foundation “European Capital of Culture – Skopje 2028” invites artists, cultural organisations, public institutions, universities, creative professionals, civil society organisations, cultural operators, creative industries, community organisations and international partners to submit project proposals that will become part of the official cultural programme of Skopje – European Capital of Culture 2028.
