Under the Christmas tree, French cities have found the announcement which officially opens the race for European capital of culture for 2028.

France, the Czech Republic and Macedonia are the countries that in 2028 will indicate the European capital of culture. Here are the first candidate cities: Czech Republic: Chomutov, Brno, Liberec, Broumov, Kutná Hora. France:  Reims, Rouen, Bourges, Clermont-Ferrand, Banlieue. Macedonia: Skopje. Reims is now officially a candidate for the 2028 European Capital of Culture.

Every year, two countries of the European Union nominate one city for the title of European Capital of Culture, which in 2028 will be hosted by the Czech Republic and France.

The idea for Skopje to run for the ECoC title at the completion open for cities from an EFTA/EEA country, a candidate country or a potential candidate to EU membership, was initiated in 2014.
