The Cáceres European Capital of Culture 2031 Consortium has launched a new grant programme to support European mobility for people with ties to Extremadura who have been accepted onto formal artistic education programmes at recognised institutions in other European countries.

The Mobility Grants Cáceres 2031 programme has an initial budget of €15,000 and offers grants of up to €10,000 per beneficiary, potentially covering 100% of eligible mobility expenses.

This initiative is part of the legacy that Cáceres 2031 is already creating across the region, even before the year in which the city hopes to become European Capital of Culture. The bid continues to generate tangible opportunities for Extremadura's cultural sector, providing access to international experiences that contribute to artists' professional development and strengthen the region's creative ecosystem.

The aim is to reduce the financial and geographical barriers that can limit access to international artistic education, encourage the acquisition of new knowledge and skills, and establish connections with institutions and professionals in other European countries.

Grants covering a wide range of artistic disciplines

The grants are open to a broad range of disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, circus arts, fine and visual arts, photography, film, design, applied arts, conservation and restoration, and cultural heritage.

Eligible courses must be part of a formal education programme or lead to a degree, diploma, certificate or other officially or formally recognised academic qualification. They must also take place at accredited institutions in a European country other than Spain.

The grants may cover travel, accommodation, living expenses, local public transport, compulsory insurance, visas and other essential mobility-related costs. Exceptionally, tuition fees or academic charges may also be covered when they are essential to making the mobility possible. All eligible expenses must relate to the 2026 financial year.

Bringing international knowledge and experience back to Extremadura

One of the programme's key priorities is ensuring that the knowledge and experience gained abroad can benefit Extremadura. Grant recipients will be required to submit a proposal outlining how they intend to share what they have learned during their international studies with the region's cultural community.

This knowledge transfer may take the form of workshops, concerts, exhibitions, meetings, educational activities, mentoring programmes or other opportunities for exchanging knowledge and experience.

Applications will be assessed through a competitive selection process, taking into account the quality and relevance of the educational opportunity, the applicant's artistic and academic background, the expected impact on their development, financial needs and geographical barriers, as well as their ties to Extremadura and the potential benefits for the region. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 60 out of 100 points to be eligible for funding.

Application deadlines and requirements

The grants are open to individuals who have been accepted onto eligible artistic education programmes and can demonstrate a connection to Extremadura through residence, family home or previous formal artistic studies undertaken in the region.

The application period will remain open for 15 working days, starting on the day following the publication of the official notice of the call, in accordance with the programme's terms and conditions. Applications may be submitted through the Cáceres City Council's Electronic Office or through any other legally recognised submission channel.

Full details of the programme, eligibility requirements and necessary documentation are available on the Extremadura Regional Government's Youth Portal:

Through these grants, Cáceres 2031 reinforces its commitment to a bid designed to create a lasting impact in Extremadura. Artistic mobility and the exchange of knowledge with Europe are becoming valuable tools for nurturing regional talent and building a cultural legacy that begins long before 2031.
