These are days of great trepidation in Portugal. The visits of the evaluation panel to the four cities of Portugal that have entered the short list to become European Capital of Culture for 2027 start today.
One of Aveiro, Evora, Braga and Ponta Delgada will be named European capital of culture. Much will depend on what each of these cities will be able to offer the evaluation panel during the visit.
In 1927 there will be two European capitals of culture, one for Portugal and one for Latvia.
For Latvia, the European capital of culture will be Liepāja.
In the past, Portugal has received the title three times: Lisbon, in 1994, Porto in 2001, and Guimarães in 2012.
The last exam of the 4 cities on the short list will be held on 6 December
On December 7, in Lisbon, the European capital of culture 2027 will be proclaimed for Portugal.
