From 5 to 10 May 2025, Materahub kicks off the Europe Week, a series of of cultural and educational events designed to honour the founding values of the European Union. The symbolic heart of the initiative will be Europe Day on 9 May, which this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the historic proposal presented in 1950 by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman that laid the foundations of European cooperation.

There are 39 Capitals of Culture around the world. Once again this year, Steve Green, one of the leading experts on this subject and a former member of the panel assessing the European Capitals of Culture, has published his report for the ninth consecutive year, drawing up a complete map of the cities that will have this title in 2025.

The national meeting “Legacy is Capital: the volunteering legacy on big events”, promoted by CSVnet,held in Trento on 15th November 2024,  saw the participation of various national volunteering organizations,  as well as the “Open Culture 2019 Volunteers” association, established at the time of the nomination of Matera as a European Capital of Culture.

Matera (Italy) and Tetouan (Morocco) have been named the 2026 Mediterranean Capitals of Culture and Dialogue, a yearlong distinction that celebrates the cities’ rich cultural heritage and shared Mediterranean vision, by the Union for the Mediterranean and the Anna Lindh Foundation.

‘Ten years ago it was as if we had challenged geographical latitude by promising that we would be able to navigate extreme latitudes. The question to ask ourselves now is: which latitudes do we want to explore in the next 10 years?’. It was with this message that the director of the Matera Basilicata 2019 Foundation, Rita Orlando, closed her speech at the round table ‘Matera, 10 years of Capital’ organised by the Foundation on 17 October, in Casa Cava in Matera, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the proclamation of the city of the Sassi as European Capital of Culture 2019.
