Italy 2025, 16 cities want to be italian capital of culture

16 Italian cities have presented the expression of interest to the Ministry of Culture to participate in the title of "Italian Capital of Culture" for the year 2025.

The participating cities will submit their candidacy dossier by 13 September which will be submitted for evaluation by a commission of seven renowned experts in the management of cultural heritage. The application file must contain: the title of the application file; the cultural project lasting one year, including the time schedule and the individual activities envisaged; the body in charge of developing and promoting the project, its implementation and monitoring the results, with the identification of a specific responsible figure; the evaluation of the economic and financial sustainability of the proposed cultural project; the objectives pursued, in qualitative and quantitative terms, and the indicators that will be used to measure their achievement. By November 15, 2022, the commission will define the short list of the 10 finalist cities, the evaluation procedure will be completed by January 17, 2023.
The title of Italian Capital of Culture, wanted by the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, is awarded for a period of one year and the winning city receives one million euros for the realization of the project. Procida holds the title for 2022, since its establishment, the title has been assigned: in 2015, to the cities of Cagliari, Lecce, Perugia, Ravenna and Siena; in 2016, in Mantua; in 2017, in Pistoia, in 2018, in Palermo. Parma was the Italian Capital of Culture for 2020 and 2021, Bergamo and Brescia Italian Capitals of Culture for 2023 and the city of Pesaro will become the capital of culture in 2024.
