In 2031, Spain will again be one of the European countries to nominate the European Capital of Culture along with Malta. After Madrid (1992), Santiago de Compostela (2000), Salamanca (2002) and San Sebastian (2016), this will be the fifth time for Spain to nominate a European Capital of Culture. One of the Spanish cities that has already decided to participate in the competition is Burgos. 'Renaissance' is the title of the project. Soon Ecocnews will tell you more about the aspirations of this community.

Meanwhile, Burgos has launched a call for ideas addressed to all European artists to identify the best projects to be included in the dossier.Burgos 2031 is looking for european artists to join forces with local artists from Burgos in the Call for Ideas for the cultural project of Burgos European Capital of Culture 2031, entitled “Renaissance”.

The Call for Ideas is aimed at local artists and collectives partnered with artists from the Culture Next network cities. It seeks to strengthen the European dimension of cultural initiatives in the network, the joint reflection on common European values, and the generation of active participatory processes with the citizens of Burgos. The projects should be inspired by the values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), a movement that promotes three key principles: reconnecting with nature, regaining a sense of community and belonging, and the need for long-term, life-cycle thinking in the industrial ecosystem.

The Call for Ideas is open to cultural projects that use any of the following five mediums: visual and plastic arts, film and audio-visual, performing arts and music, digital art, and artists/creative economy hybridisation. The projects will be developed in Burgos by April 2024.

The jury will select ten projects, which will each receive 14,000 euros. It will evaluate the projects based on their collaboration with social and neighbourhood collectives, the use of collaborative participation processes, the promotion of contemporary artistic creation, and the use of art to reflect upon the future of medium-sized cities and their challenges, such as depopulation, talent drain, and aging.

Who can apply?
Individual artists or groups. The project must be developed in collaboration with a European artist or collective.
In addition, to facilitate this exchange, Burgos 2031 will host a webinar to put local artists in contact with European artists interested in participating. The projects will be developed in Burgos, except for those that, due to their digital nature, do not require a physical space and can be developed further afield in Europe if the cities, whose artists are participating in the project, so decide.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 60 calendar days from the publication of these rules. July 6, 2023.

For more information, you can participate in the webinair to be held on 16 May at 1 p.m. by sending an e-mail with your details to: Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots. È necessario abilitare JavaScript per vederlo.
