Salzkammergut 2024, Open call for a short film

The European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024 will be opened from 19 to 21 January 2024. For this opening, an art film project is being tendered, which will be part of the celebrations and ceremony on 20 January 2024.

The call for applications is aimed at students, pupils with a focus on film/graphics, etc.

Content of the short film (approx. 5-10 minutes): Squares, wind musicians, lakes of the Capital of Culture region. Flatboats served as a central means of transport for the transportation of raw materials, especially salt and wood. The many lakes of the Salzkammergut and the numerous brass bands characterise the region both scenically and culturally. The short film which is to result from the project is to take up these themes, link them together and process them artistically.

Required submission documents:
- Applicant's data, curriculum vitae and portfolio/documentation of previous artistic work and, if applicable links to two selected artistic works
- Written concept incl. information on the realisation in the scope of a maximum of 5 pages A4

Submissions must be sent by 31.08.2023 by 23:59 at the latest.

The announcement of the winners will take place in mid-September 2023. The implementation of the project is planned for the beginning of October 2023.

The project is endowed with 2,000 €. Production funds in the amount of 10,000 will be made available.

The Capital of Culture Region is made up of 23 municipalities in the provinces of Upper Austria and Styria. The title "European Capital of Culture" has been awarded to cities and regions in Europe since 1985. For the first time in history, it will take place in 2024 in an inner-alpine, rural region.

Bad Ischl as the banner town and the Salzkammergut region were awarded the title "European Capital of Culture 2024" in November 2019 after a multi-stage application process. 23 municipalities in Upper Austria and Styria a cultural region that is reinventing itself for the future through the interaction of art, culture, business and tourism (with currently around 190 fixed and 10 associated projects). Together with Bad Ischl Salzkammergut, Tartu (Estonia) and Bodø (Norway) will host the European Capital of Culture 2024.
